ISCSI vs. FC vc NFS

Category: Technology - David Bombard @ 12:18

Duncan Epping writes a ottimopaper that summarize it in a picture

The comparison is made with respect aFibre Channel with fixed path.

ISCSI and NFS never go below 95%.

A note on new installations: NFS or iSCSI can lower the cost of a new installation by reducing the cost of applied technologies (particularly NFS) without the use of jumbo frames ....

RHEL 5.3 Xen Linux Cluster ...

Category: Linux , Technology - David Bombard @ 09:53

In this period I ineressato linux clustering.

Since arriving at a working configuration in a scenario was complicated because the factors and variables were so many I decided to create a series of articles that explain how to do this configuration.

THE documentazionione basa is created for RHEL 5.3 version of Centos equivalent.

The Openfiler Project

Category: Linux , Technology - David Bombard @ 09:16

Openfiler is a distribution to create a NAS / SAN Browser-based interface

Based on rPath Linux is distributed as a single entity and all content is Open Source.

Network protocols supported by Openfiler sarin include: NFS, SMB / CIFS, HTTP / WebDAV and FTP.

Network directories supported by Openfiler include NIS, LDAP (with overwhelming support of encrypted passwords in the SMB / CIFS), Active Directory (native and mixed modes) and Hesiod. Authentication protocols include Kerberos 5.

Openfiler includes support for partitioning of volumiì, iSCSI (targete and began a series of very interesting features go to their website for more info

I installed the current relase of Openfiler on an old machine (pentium 3) to get to share iSCSI volumes in a few minutes. To test the SAN without necessarily committing the resources of production.

ISCSI

Category: Technology - David Bombard @ 09:14

Internet SCSI (iSCSI) is a network protocol that allows the use of protocllo SCSI over TCP / IP.

It 'a good alternative to Fibre Channel-based SAN.

You can easily manage, mount and format iSCSI Volume under Linux / Windows without adapters introduced, although for performance reasons it is best to dedicate one adapter to communicate with storage.

It 'a protocol that allows for easily a SAN without necessarily investing in new switches or training.
